Westman Atelier Suprême Bio-Complex Foundation Review: Is the New Liquid Foundation Worth It?

Westman Atelier Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation

When Westman Atelier announced they were releasing a liquid foundation I knew it would be an immediate purchase. I’ve been a fan and long-time follower of Gucci Westman’s career, dating back to when I first discovered her while working as a Beauty Advisor for Lancôme. She had just debuted as the brand’s Artistic Director with the 2005 spring collection titled “French Riviera”, featuring Drew Barrymore. I fell in love with her makeup philosophy and “skin-first” approach.

I made my first Westman Atelier purchase at launch in 2018 from Barneys New York. All of my initial purchases are still staples in my routine – the Vital Skin Foundation Stick, Baby Cheeks Blush Stick, Face Trace Contour Stick, and Lit Up Highlighter Stick.

The Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation is my most anticipated launch from WA to date. As a makeup artist, Gucci Westman built her reputation on her ability to enhance natural radiance — creating “second-skin” glowing complexions notably seen on her celebrity clients who include Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway, and Nicole Kidman. Because of this, I knew her first true liquid foundation would be a hit and it did not disappoint!

Shade & Finish

The Westman Atelier liquid foundation is available in 30 shades. I purchased L1, described as “fair to light neutral,” and it is the perfect match for my neutral-warm skin tone. In my opinion, this shade leans warm with yellow undertones.

The finish is blurred and natural — not matte or dewy…it’s truly undetectable and looks like skin. It’s gorgeous. It has medium-full coverage. I hesitate to call it full because, while it does cover redness and blemishes completely, it never feels like I’m wearing a heavy foundation.  It’s entirely weightless and has the perfect, skin-like finish — not drying and does not settle into my pores. It has a blurring, airbrush effect on the skin. I only needed about two pumps to achieve full coverage and it blended seamlessly into the skin.

Bio-Complex Technology

The foundation is enhanced with a peptide-based “bio-complex” skincare benefit said to jumpstart the skin’s natural renewal process by smoothing, brightening, and firming. In a video on Youtube, Gucci Westman said that this took three years to perfect in a biotech lab in Spain, encapsulating the peptide complex using an Exosome technology. Based on a clinical study, this bio-complex technology is said to brighten overall tone and reduce wrinkles in four weeks.

Wear

I put this foundation to the test in the 115-degree heat index here in Florida and I’m happy to report that it held up remarkably well. It did not become oily or settle into my pores and it stayed undetectable throughout the day. Because the foundation does not contain silicones like most liquid foundations do, I was unsure of how well this would hold up in the hot weather, but I am extremely happy with the results!

Overall, this is shaping up to be one of my top makeup purchases of the year…and top purchases from Westman Atelier as a whole, which says a lot because I love nearly everything I’ve tried from the brand over the years.
