I’m spending the weekend packing for our trip to Connecticut this week. Matt and I are flying into Hartford and renting a car to explore around the state. This will be our first trip this year with no plans other than to spend as much time outdoors as possible. It’s been an unusually hot October in Orlando and I am in desperate need of clear, crisp air.

I grew up close to the Blue Ridge Mountains in the upstate of South Carolina and almost every weekend in the fall we would drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to visit various state parks and go hiking. Around this time each year I find myself missing the cool mountain air and colorful fall foliage so I’m hoping that Connecticut will help fill that void for me.

Here’s an old photo I took several years ago from one of my favorite spots in Asheville, NC:

Isn’t it gorgeous?!

I’ll be sharing more of our trip once we get back but today I wanted to chat about packing.

During our visit, the temperatures will range between 30 to 60 degrees so I’m packing many layering items that I can take on or off throughout the day depending on the weather. I bringing vests, sweaters, fleece pullovers, and water resistant jackets as well as a few basic pieces like cotton tees and button-up shirts. I’m only bringing one dress and one skirt which is very unlike me but we’ll be spending much of our time exploring outdoors and pants are a more appropriate option. I’ll be honest, living in Florida has made me a bit weak when it comes to cooler temps so I’m planning ahead and packing lots of warm sweaters. 🙂

For footwear, I’m packing a few outdoor options like my Hunter boots and these waterproof lace-up boots. One of the places we’re staying is near a hiking trail so I’m sure these will come in handy.

I’m also packing my studded ankle boots for a dressier option as well as my go-to over the knee boots which I’ll wear with my skirt/dress.

Scroll through the items below and click an image for the direct link to everything I’m packing:
