With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I wanted to share five luxury fragrances that I find myself returning to again and again. I’ve never been the type of person to have one single signature scent – instead, I wear fragrance based on my mood, season, and occasion. While I don’t have specific “favorite” notes, I’m drawn to scents that feel refreshing, comforting, and wearable in the Florida humidity.
Byredo Bal d’Afrique — This ethereal fragrance is warm and intoxicating. The first time I smelled it, I knew it belonged in my collection. A delicate blend of bright neroli and creamy African marigold gradually softens into a warm cedarwood and vetiver base. There’s nothing overpowering about this fragrance – it’s light yet complex enough to make a statement. And because of its wearability, this is one that I reach for both day and night.
Miss Dior Parfum — This is my go-to scent for date night, largely because it’s Matt’s favorite in my collection. The bottle perfectly mirrors the fragrance: youthful, feminine, flirty, and romantic. It opens with juicy wild strawberries and jasmine before settling into a creamy, warm amber base. I typically spritz just one spray on the back of my neck and can still smell it the next day. It’s incredibly fruity, warm, and alluring.
Diptyque Eau des Sens Eau de Toilette — If I had to choose one fragrance to wear forever, this would be it. It’s the closest thing I have to a signature scent because I’ve worn it for over a decade. The orange blossom top note delivers an immediate, mouthwatering burst, but the fragrance truly captures the entire bitter orange tree – not just the citrus sweetness. You’ll also find juniper berries, angelica root, and patchouli, which give it depth and complexity. It’s incredibly addictive. I also own the hair mist and body gel, because I love layering this scent. If you enjoy citrus fragrances without overpowering sweetness, this is a beautiful option.
Philosykos Eau de Parfum — I have a soft spot for fig fragrances, and I first discovered Philosykos through another favorite, Premier Figuier for L’Artisan, as both were created by perfumer Olivia Giacobetti. However, Philosykos quickly became my preferred fig scent because it captures the essence of the entire fig tree, not just the fruit itself. You get the freshness of the leaves, the milky fig, and the woody cedar bark. It’s delighful. There are subtle coconut notes as well. But not sunscreen-like coconut, but more reminiscent of sun-ripened fruit. It’s warm and inviting. And because of this, it’s my favorite fragrance to wear on a hot summer day. Diptyque describes it as evoking the memory of walking through wild fig trees during a summer in Greece, which feels perfectly fitting.
Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Forte Mandarine Basilic — I picked this up spontaneously at Epcot a few years ago, and it quickly became a favorite in my collection. It’s a bright, mouth-puckering citrus fragrance built around mandarin orange, basil, and orange blossom. There are also notes of honey, Bulgarian rose, and vanilla that add a sugary sweetness, making this the sweetest fragrance I own. While I don’t personally detect much basil in this – it leans more sweet than fresh – this is my go-to on days when I want something bright and mood-boosting. If you wore Clinque Happy in middle school like me, I’d say this is the grown-up version of that scent. 🙂
