What to Expect

Welcome to my new, re-designed blog! First and foremost if you’re reading this I want to say thank you. Thank you for supporting me online and taking the time to read this, watch my videos, and following me on this journey. Launching this blog is like taking a big, deep sigh of relief. It’s something I’ve been working on for months and I’m so excited for this refresh.

Quick{ish} back story….

In 2006, I started a fashion blog titled “Style Frenzy” while in school pursuing Fashion and Retail Management. This blog was an outlet where I shared style tips, trends, and things I learned while in school about fashion/design. This was wayyy back in the day before blogging was a legit career path so I did this strictly for my own personal diary. I honestly don’t remember how or why I stopped blogging…but I’m sure the main reason is because work took over my life and blogging took a backseat. I’ve tried to find this old blog of mine but I guess I deleted it because someone else now blogs under this name. It’s a shame because I’d love to go back and see what trends I wrote about back then haha!

Flash forward to 2010, Matt and I were struggling to make ends meet and were living with his parents after leaving our jobs at Disney and moving back to SC. It was rough (thanks, recession). I was dealing with various health issues and we weren’t really sure where our lives were headed. One night, while Matt was working I was online looking at Lush Cosmetics and I stumbled onto a video review for some of their products. I clicked the video and it took me to YouTube….and this video by Elle Fowler was my introduction to the beauty community on YouTube.

I immediately knew it was something I wanted to pursue and that night I created my channel called GlamourWonderland. Glamour for my love of all things glam and wonderland as a nod to my old friend at Disney.

At the time, I was working in the beauty industry and I knew that I could use my training/knowledge to share brands and products I loved. I was so excited to start! My first video was a Minnie Mouse Halloween tutorial with DIY ears that I showed how to make on my new blog, glamourwonderland.com {RIP haha}. I filmed the video on an old point and shoot camera that I put on top of a stack of boxes and books in my in-law’s guest bedroom where we were staying. Looking back, I can’t believe I had the courage to do it…my in-laws probably thought I was crazy putting makeup on in front of my camera for the internet, but I never hesitated back then. I knew it was what I was supposed to do. I strongly believe God placed this on my heart and gave me the courage I needed to begin. Side note: If you’re feeling that pull – towards anything – do.it. Do it and don’t think twice! Don’t worry about the details just begin and everything will fall into place.

If you’re here and reading this you’ve probably watched my videos and know the journey I’ve been on since uploading my first video. But, I want to share a few things here that I’ve never said before.

I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I’ve failed countless times. I’ve quit and began again. I’ve turned down opportunities for growth out of extreme fear of the unknown. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety. Therapy has become a regular part of my life and it has helped me tremendously. This actually brings me to the point of creating this blog….I needed it for me.

Blogging is where I started my online journey and I’ve been wanting to start it again for awhile now. If you watched my older vlogs you probably heard me mention that my blog was launching back in 2014…that kinda got pushed aside when I went back to school to become a certified health coach. After school, my blog turned into a website for health coaching instead, but that pull to have a blog for all of my passions never went away.

So here it is. 🙂

I appreciate you reading this and sharing this new journey with me. Here are a few things you can expect to find here:

Positivity – This is so important to me because we all need a place to go to find encouragement and joy. You see a lot of negativity online nowadays and I want this blog to be a place that promotes a positive attitude. I personally don’t like talking about products or brands that I dislike, if something doesn’t work for me I simply choose not to talk about it.

Authenticity – This is a really big one for me. I’ve talked about this on Instagram but I struggled with being true to myself in the past out of fear because of what people have said about me or from labels placed upon me for various reasons. But, I’ve realized that life’s too short and now, what you see is me 100%. This blog is me embracing who I am and all of my passions. My hope is that I can encourage you to embrace who you are and live authentically, too.

Empowerment – As I share my thoughts and things I’ve learned in life, I hope it will give you the confidence to believe in yourself. To feel empowered to improve your life rather than feel intimidated and afraid to pursue your passions. I’m much different than I was just a few short years ago and I’ve learned a lot about what I can achieve if I follow my heart and put in the hard work. I hope that sharing my journey will empower you to live confidently. I certainly don’t have all the answers but the lessons I’ve learned so far seem to have taught me pretty well.

And there you have it!

Again, I’m so thankful you’re here and supporting me. It means the world to me.

What about you…what’s something you want to begin? Let me know below!
