How to Put Your Dreams into Action

I believe we all go through seasons in life where we feel a desire to take action towards something we want in life. This can be a small desire, like changing up your style of clothing, or something drastic, such as a cross-country move or career change. However, feeling a desire and actually taking action towards that desire are two totally different things. Today I want to share a few tips I’ve learned about how to put your dreams into action. I’ve had moments in my life where I’ve taken action towards a dream with confidence pretty quickly and other times where I’ve pushed back out of fear.

When I started my YouTube channel, I barely thought twice about it – it was something I knew I wanted to do and I just went for it without hesitating. Has it been easy? Definitely not…but totally worth it. I’ve met amazing people within the YouTube community and had some pretty cool opportunities along the way.

It wasn’t so easy for me to go back to school to become a health coach. I waited a little over a year before I enrolled and had a lot of hesitations and fears. Could I really be a health coach? Who would want to work with me? I had tons of hesitations so I held myself back.

If you find yourself holding back from pursuing something you truly desire, here’s a few tips that may help.





1 – Own it.

Whatever you want, think as if it’s already happening. Want to start a YouTube channel? Start thinking of yourself as a YouTuber. Own it. Want to start eating healthy? Act like you already make healthy food choices. Think as though you already have what you desire.

Margaret Thatcher said it beautifully:

Watch your thoughts for they become words. Watch your words for they become actions. Watch your actions for they become…habits. Watch your habits, for they become your character. And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny! What we think we become.”

What we think we become. So true, right?

So, how can you start owning what you want?



2 – Feel it.

I know, this sounds a little strange and out there, but it really works. Embody how it would feel to have what you want. Would you hold yourself differently? Feel more confident? Dress differently? Take owning it one step further by embracing how you would feel once you’re living your dream.


3 – Take the first step.

Simple enough, but much harder than it sounds. When I felt fearful about signing my first clients after graduating from IIN, I took small steps towards my goal. I wrote down how many clients I wanted, I invested in my own health coach to appreciate the value I would bring, and I held my first consultation with a potential client (who ended up signing up for my program!). It was definitely scary but I let the fear fuel me instead of hold me back. Don’t try to get ahead of yourself and think too logically, just move. Take the first step and everything will fall into place. And if it doesn’t? Keep taking steps forward until it does.
